Tyre Cart

Tyre cart checks start with wheel nuts, tie-down points and the ramp angle into the trailer. At Kyalami and Zwartkops, crews usually mark hot-pressure targets, scrub status and set numbers before the first session so the right stack leaves the awning. Dust, loose valve caps and mixed compounds are the common catches when loading in the dark.

Fuel Rig

A fuel rig note should cover drum labels, funnel strainers, earth points and the jerry cans kept for reserve laps. On club race weekends, teams often separate qualifying fuel from race fuel and record what was poured after each session to avoid guessing at the next grid call. Inland heat and long paddock pushes both matter when hoses, vents and lids are checked.

Timing Board

Timing board prep is not just the numbers hanging straight. Crews need legible lap gaps, pit signals and board positions that the driver can pick up on the main straight without hunting for it through traffic. Wind at open pit walls, marker pens that dry out, and late session changes are usually worth noting before the first run.

Spares Case

The spares case needs a packing order that matches the faults most likely at a club meeting. Wheel studs, tape, fuses, relays, clips and spare sensors should sit where a mechanic can reach them without unpacking half the box beside the car. Highveld dust, coastal moisture and mixed borrowed tools all affect what stays sealed and what must be checked after each round.

Cool Suit

Cool suit prep usually starts with hose routing, power leads and a leak check before the driver straps in. Summer rounds place extra focus on ice loading, connector condition and whether the box can stay shaded in a crowded pit space. Between sessions, crews normally check pump flow and make sure the seat belts are not pinching the lines.

Radio Kit

Radio kit notes should list charged handsets, spare earpieces, push-to-talk switches and the channel plan for pit crew and dummy grid. Concrete garages, generators and other team radios can interfere with clear comms, so a signal test near pit out helps before engines fire. Labels on each unit also stop the usual mix-up between car set, fuel lane set and the handset carried to scrutineering.
